Summer Updates…

Hi All-

Been a while, but things have been busy behind the scenes. We’ve been hard at work on the new album; “Adamantium Whiskers“, which will drop this fall. I can’t tell you how excited I am for you all to hear it. We’re also working on some cool things to coincide with the release, and I’ll announce more about them as we get closer to the date. Speaking of a date, there isn’t one…yet. I’ve still got a good bit to get done before I can nail one down…but soon. Anyway, watch this space, (or Twitter) for updates.

PAX Recap

PAXEast 13 Expo FloorEach year after the whirlwind that is the PAX weekend, I try to write one of these recaps. Sometimes they get written, sometimes not…though I’m not sure if one has ever been published.

PAX this year was awesome, but in a different way than usual. Aside from ESO I wasn’t interested in seeing any of the “big games” (read: waiting in line for an hour), so I was able to roam freely. Thankfully I did, because I found a whole world of indie games that I can’t wait to play again. From Fractured Soul (coming to Steam), to Castle Story, to Shovel Knight, I must have killed 4 hours between them. Each felt engaging in a fresh way that was exciting, not to mention supporting the little guy is huge for me. Read rest of story…

Annual PAX East Single: Get to the Choppa!

It’s that time of year again and the good stuff is here! This years PAX East single is an upbeat singalong chock full of wisdom. If there’s one thing the 80’s taught us, besides “knowing is half the battle” and that cocaine turns your brains into tasty fried eggs…it’s that any obstacle can be overcome with the help of a gnarly helicopter. Look at the evidence: Airwolf, Rambo 2 & 3, Predator, Red Dawn, Magnum P.I., The A-Team, Blue Thunder, Die Hard and pretty much any other movie/show where people needed to save the day or be saved. The answer is always: “Get to the Choppa!!”

PAX East 2013!

Somehow it’s here again. Like a slumbering giant, it lurks, waiting for the moment when it may stride proudly out of it’s lair and demand tribute from the masses. Kind of. Maybe that’s going a little too far, but you get my drift. Of course I’m talking about PAX East 2013. The one time each year that Boston area geeks get to cut loose under one roof and indulge in our basest instincts: Playing, collecting, and tweeting.

As has become tradition, MisCast will be in attendance and releasing new music, but this year we’re doing things a little differently. First, we’ll be releasing a free single to the internet on Thursday. A cut off our upcoming album (album to be named later), free for all. Second, we’ll be giving away 300 copies of a special EP to PAX East attendees. The catch is, you’ll have to find us. Or we’ll find you. Last year Sull and I had a great time meeting (and drinking) with a bunch of cool people and we’re hoping to do more of that this year. We’ll be tweeting throughout PAX (starting Thursday night when we arrive) giving hints to our location or issuing challenges from the classic arcade room. Oh, and there will be easter eggs.

Perhaps most exciting of all, we’re going to be playing live at PAX this year! No, not at either of the concerts, but from the halls of the convention center. We’re plotting a couple of “ninja shows” Friday and Saturday and will be tweeting out the time/location as they draw near.

As always, we’re looking forward to meeting up with you all and for all the mayhem that is PAX. More to come…

Confessional: Baseball

It’s time to come clean, I love baseball. Yep…love it. Watch it damn near every day in season, take part in several fantasy leagues and proudly (well, somewhat proudly) wear a baseball cap nearly year round. While I realize that it’s wildly unpopular among the nerderati to take part in anything “sportsball” related, I just don’t give a fuck. While I’ve never been one to follow the crowd, I can’t help but find it incredibly tedious to have to defend my love of the game.
TL:DR- Jay loves baseball and is so excited for a new season, he recorded this: Read rest of story…

New Music! “A Very MisCast Christmas”

While I figured a couple Christmas tunes might be on the docket for this EP series, I didn’t expect it to land before Thanksgiving. But it’s here and it was a hell of a lot of fun recording it. Hope you enjoy ’em and that they bring a little rock to a drab holiday party. Get ’em here or on the side!

While I was out…

So I spent last week in a nearly internet free place for the first time in a very long time. The first few days were a struggle. Even though I knew it had no signal, I still picked up my phone and checked it. After a few days, I forgot about it and enjoyed the solitude that only north western Maine can provide.

WHAT IF?! Tom Waits auditioned for Journey!?

Yes…like the great Uatu, we too sometimes wonder, “What if?!”….in 2007 when Journey was in need of a new lead singer after the departure of Steve Augeri, Neal Schon never found footage on youtube of Arnel Pineda crushing Journey tunes with The Zoo…but instead held an open audition, where a dark figure in a tattered hat shambled in, clutching a road weary Martin acoustic and sat down at the mic…

Not in it for the money? (aka a lesson in pretentiousness)

Ahhhhhhh….ok. I’m going to go stream of consciousness on you all here and hopefully end up with something coherent. One of the biggest things I struggle with in regards to MisCast (though in a similar way with my business) is the business vs art debate. When we finished Clutter in the Machine and I was posting it to bandcamp, I had a whole lot of mixed feelings. The first was pride…pride that we had actually completed this. As someone who’s been making music since I was 13, it was a powerful moment to see a collection of my songs…complete and available for the massess. Then I got to the box on the form where I had to set price, and my whole cloud 9 moment came crashing down.
